A esta ciudad llegué tras el amor de una bayamesa, de las mujeres más bellas de Cuba según la tradición oral de esta tierra devenida fragua de identidad nacional.En este tiempo de casi un año compruebo por qué Bayamo y su gente recaban la admiración de visitantes.
Estar en la segunda villa fundada por el Adelantado Diego Velásquez en la Isla , es tropezar con el sentido de pertenencia de sus pobladores fundido con el paso de los años.
Se siente la pasión saberse hijos del padre de la patria Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, quien inició junto a coterráneos suyos las Guerras de independencia de Cuba el 10 de octubre de 1868.
En cada conversación se percibe el orgullo de los bayameses por sus ancestros que quemaron la villa en el 1868 antes de entregarla a los españoles.
Entonan con hidalguía el Hinmo de Bayamo, devenido el Nacional, estrenado el 20 de octubre de 1868 por Perucho Figueredo.
Un periodista amigo, bayamés, reseña su ciudad como “una comarca que jamás decidió con tanto peso el destino de un país, ni mereció semejante cifra de apelativos ganados por un inmenso currículo de glorias y heroicidades”.
Unido a los epítetos de escritores, poetas y periodistas, en la ciudad Monumento Nacional las semanas laborales van de domingo a domingo. Existen noches blancas y domingos rojos como si el tiempo no alcanzara para hacer obras nuevas.
El 5 de noviembre cuando la Villa llega a su aniversario 495 tal parecería que no habrá más celebraciones.
Según reportes de la prensa local, con trabajo y más trabajo desde 1998 a la fecha se construyeron o remodelaron más de mil 200 obras de diversos sectores.
Impresiona estar en este sitio del oriente cubano acunado por las campanas de la catedral junto a las notas de la primera canción romántica y de sus calles que tiene lindas bayamesas.

Fue escrito en la noche y madrugada de los dias 13 y 14 de agosto de 1867. El dia 20 de octubre de 1868, se canto su letra por primera vez. Gracias.
